Meet Christina Estrada

Christina Estrada

“I hold on to the fact of what makes Houston great, not just the food, buildings and attractions, but the millions of different people who call this place home.”

Christina Estrada (she only answers to Christy) was born and raised on the Northside of Houston and currently resides there with her husband, Antonio, and five children.  If you ask what her favorite side of Houston is, she will answer with pride that it will always be the North.  Christy has no intentions of ever leaving Houston.

“I have a pretty established family already here. And then, you know, my job. I love my job, so I don't see myself going anywhere else. And I'm what two generations of Houston, so it's kind of where I'm at.”

Christy’s father came to Houston from Mexico when he was only eight years old.  He and his siblings grew up and were raised here.  Her mother came from Louisiana when she was five years old and grew up here as well.  Now Christy and her siblings as well as their children are growing up as Houstonians and loving every bit of it!

Christy is currently a part of the executive team at Noah’s House, a local non-profit here in Houston that provides a safe place to live for 44 adults with intellectual disabilities.  She serves as the agency’s program coordinator, providing oversight of operations such as facility maintenance, resident activities, and programming.  She has been there a little over four years and enjoys the work she does.  Her work may be challenging, but it is equally as rewarding.

“I think what I'm doing now, working with Noah’s House, and seeing that I'm making a difference in the lives of the people that I work with and work for.  It really drives me to be the best that I can be. Not only for them seeing my potential but raising a family that sees it too.”

Although Christy is a hard worker, she always makes time for her family.

“I'm very busy and a sports mom.”

Christy’s four daughters and son keep her busy with the various activities they’re involved in.  Outside of extracurricular activities, she and her family enjoy their time exploring the many attractions of their city.  Some of her favorites include the annual family trip to Moody Gardens, the NASA Space Center, and the several fishing areas and state parks that surround the city.  She also enjoys a great seafood restaurant called Lotus that she visits a few times a month.

Christy’s most memorable Houston moment was when Hurricane Harvey hit.

“When Harvey hit, it shed a lot of light on Houston. There's so much diversity here in Houston and when Harvey hit it, no matter where you were from or what you did anything like that everyone was helping each other. And I think that that kind of, you know, again shed the most light on Houston, and so it's a memory that I won't forget.”

“Everyone should know one thing about Houston. When we're hit with a problem, we face it head on, we get through it and we have each other's backs.”
