Meet Faith Washington
Faith Washington’s superpower is performing in chaotic situations. This “herder of cats” loves pop and movement and is not easily flustered. With her big smile, expressive eyes, and expansive gestures, she told me this ability drew her to the hospitality industry. She can talk about the science behind creating a restaurant experience for days. You may guess that lighting, chair comfort, and music cue how long the restaurant wants you to stay and how settled they want you to feel. Did you know that there is intention behind how many items Starbucks piles and displays in the case? Our experience is managed every step of the way, every time we enter a food establishment.
A true Taurus, Faith does not shy away from hard work. She is deliberate, ambitious, and has strong mental tenacity. “I am the granddaughter of sharecroppers from south Alabama. So, while I am not the CEO (or a nuclear engineer like my cousins), I think it’s important to reflect on how far my generation and I have come. I’ve done ok for myself and my family. Education was key to improving our stance in society and increased opportunities,” says Faith.
Faith knows about seeking opportunities. While in the hospitality industry, she was exposed to real estate and construction projects. In January 2020 (just a couple of months before the pandemic hit), she joined BMC software as their Manager of Real Estate and Facilities. She identifies office space and handles lease negotiations in the Americas and facilities management for 15 sites. This includes designing, renovating, and relocating office spaces, budgeting construction costs, and preparing project information for approval. I asked her how COVID-19 affected her job, and she cheerfully replied that she can get great rates now for their needs, so it all evens out.
