Meet Francis Leke Adesina

Francis Adesina

Houston is Home

As a lifelong Houstonian, there is no doubt that Francis Adesina takes pride in being a part of a city with diverse culture, genuine hospitality, and great opportunities.  Francis was raised in Houston with his family, who had moved to the United States from Nigeria in the 1970s.  Growing up in an immigrant family has its own challenges, but the Adesina family came to the Houston area for a better education and made this a priority.  Francis, along with his three siblings, found their home in a Nigerian immigrant community on the Southwestern side of town.   That area of Houston had incredible diversity, and Francis reflects on his upbringing often in how he discovered the various ethnicities, the business and community relationships that were formed, and the silent minorities that have since become a larger significant group within the Houston area. Francis has learned that his personal identity is a combination of his environment, his culture, his immigrant group during early childhood, and his experiences in life so far.  In fact, he would say that it's not Houston that has changed over the years, but his exposure to the city that has continued to evolve.

Francis received his undergraduate degree from the University of Houston and his masters and law degrees from Texas Tech University. He has lived briefly in other areas but considers Houston to be home.  He has always returned home and has intentionally remained in Houston to evolve his career.  Francis serves as Corporate Counsel for a large oil and gas refiner.  He believes that the best legal opportunities are here in Houston within oil and gas, and he has enjoyed being a part of this exciting city and the vast opportunities available here.

In his free time, Francis enjoys volunteering around the city with a number of homeless outreach organizations and various charitable groups. He is passionate about fitness and trained for the ;MS150 where he has been able to bike across the region in support of a charitable cause. He believes that continuing to explore different areas of the city and really taking advantage of what Houston has to offer is the best way to appreciate this beautiful city.  In 2020 he joined Leadership Houston as a part of Class 39 and values the experience it has given him to engage with other leaders and empower him with a broader knowledge of Houston.

When asked what some of Francis’ favorite hotspots in Houston are, he suggests the incredible local art scene from the amazing museums to incredible murals displayed prominently through town.He also says you shouldn’t miss seeing the Rockets or Texans play. It's clear that Houston has much to offer and Francis plans to continue exploring it.
