Meet Meagan Coughlin

Meagan Coughlin

A native Texan born in Fort Worth, young Meagan’s family moved to Starkville, Mississippi where she had a childhood with many good memories.  But after many years of resisting the calls of the Lone Star state, the most powerful of attraction forces pulled her towards her current home of Houston.  Indeed, that force that sealed the deal was passion.

But what are we really talking about?  Passion as in determination, motivation, strong will power and, yes of course, her drive to be in the middle of the fray pushing boundaries to help make this world a better place. When an amazing opportunity to be the director of communications for the Houston-Galveston Area Council arose, the decision to say goodbye to the beautiful landscapes of the magnolia state and return to her native land was an easy choice. This important role would enable her to make her mark, starting within the fourth largest city in America.

Yet most importantly, Meagan’s affection for diversity, inclusion, equity and opportunity further made Houston not only an easy choice, but an ideal one.  She knew that Houston is a world-class city where 1 in 4 residents are foreign born, where there are over 145 languages spoken and where one third of the population growth is made up of immigrants. It’s easy to fall in love with the ‘city of the future’ as all American cities by 2050 are projected to be as ethnically, racially and globally diverse as Houston is now.

So it’s no wonder why Meagan fell in love with H-Town as she is an avid woman of action that likes to roll up her sleeves, help out and get things done. In addition to facilitating communications and managing the brand of such an important council that serves 13 counties with over 7 million people, she even makes the time to volunteer.  As the elected president of the Public Relations Society of America Houston Chapter, she’s helped fellows and peers broaden their PR skills through professional growth, educational programs and more.

Nevertheless, what sticks out most about Meagan is her unwavering spirit and her ability to recognize it in her neighbors and friends.  She overcame , just as many Houstonians did, the flooding mess that was Harvey. Newly moved into a house with a cat and a dog, she couldn’t leave, but watched first-hand how Houston came together.  That’s when she realized what resiliency really meant which in turn renewed her positive outlook on life.

Maegan is home - and is loving it. In a city where you can have huevos rancheros for breakfast, authentic dim sum for lunch, and a variety of spanish tapas for an amazing dinner, you just can’t help but keep falling in love with HOU.
