Meet Melvinie Davis
“I am named after my dad, Melvin.”
Better known to most as Mel, Melvinie Davis is the under-the-radar Chief Financial Officer of tbk holdings, inc. more widely known for its flagship restaurant, The Breakfast Klub here in Houston. Many consider The Breakfast Klub to be a family restaurant, and because of Mel’s spirit and commitment to its excellence, it truly lives up to this reputation. It is in this restaurant that she has helped her children with their homework, cooked in the kitchen, served their famous Wings and Waffles, and hosted family events. Those who have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the inner workings of the restaurant know that Mel is one of the gatekeepers that operates with very little fanfair. She is a constant and ever-present fixture in the restaurant who may engage you without you even realizing that you have spoken with the owner.
Mel Davis attributes gaining a solid foundation to her formative years to the Houston Independent School District. She is also a graduate of Sam Houston State University, holding a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration concentrated in Accounting. Her educational and professional background serves her and the company well.
Mel is a native Houstonian from the historic Pleasantville neighborhood, which was a close-knit enclave with generations of African American Houstonians attempting to create a solid foundation for their families. Pleasantville was established in 1948 and was one of the few areas where African Americans were able to purchase land and homes in the city of Houston during the Jim Crow era.
After the untimely death of her mother, Mel set her sights on college while continuing to help her father care for her younger brother. She speaks about her sacrifice and commitment to him and about leaving campus on Friday right after class to spend crucial time with him. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She credits the accomplishments of tbk holdings, inc. to keeping God first and having the support of her family.
Today, she exhibits the same level of commitment with her own family, as the mother of three and wife to Marcus Davis. She makes things work and happen while trying to balance the demands of entrepreneurship. Though she maintains a low profile, you will often find her supporting her three children Lundyn, Bailey, and Joshua in their latest academic and athletic efforts along with her husband, Marcus.
Mel is active in her community as a Board Member for the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce and has recently taken on a personal mission to educate those who follow her on heart health after recently losing a close relative to heart failure.
tbk holdings, inc. is the parent company of the Breakfast Klub, the Third Ward staple Reggae Hut Café that focuses on authentic, mouthwatering Caribbean specialties, Alley Kat Bar & Lounge, and Kulture, an urban komfort kitchen.
