Meet Paul Lock

Paul Lock

"If you don't have the money to spend, then don't spend it; If you aren't sick, then you don't need to take medicine."

These endearing words were imparted on Paul Lock by his maternal grandmother, who gave him solid life lessons as she helped rear him during his early childhood.  These lessons from a Great Depression survivor highlight Paul's strong will and spirit. His Mother and Grandmother raised him after his father untimely passed away when he was eight years old.  This dynamic instilled in him a sense of responsibility to family and allowed him to learn from someone who knew first hand about self-reliance and resiliency.

Growing up in Arkansas, he understood that true grit and hard work would pay off and lead to happiness and success, even through adversity.  That fighting spirit was passed on to his mother, who has battled and defeated COVID-19 on two separate occasions.

Growing up in the "Natural State," Paul developed his love for nature and the outdoors, where some of his fondest childhood memories involve his passion for outdoor activities.  Hunting, fishing, and camping became his pleasure and was not lost as he eventually made his way to Texas.  An alumnus of Baylor University, Paul fell in love with Texas and all that it had to offer and knew that he wanted to set up roots here permanently.  After the oil and gas decline of the late '80s, Paul made the difficult decision to return to Arkansas to seek employment after graduation.   While he was happy to be around family and the familiar, his heart was in Texas.  After ten years, he finally got the call for a job relocation to Houston, where he knew he always wanted to be.

Paul learned early on that the key to be successful in business is to be flexible.  Even when you are right and have good intentions, you can disenfranchise team members by not allowing ideas and concepts to flow more smoothly.  He also believes in the importance of humility and turned down an opportunity for a prominent social group because he never wants to appear braggadocious, but understands that a man's characteristics can be seen in your actions, not by the boastful words of your accomplishments.

Paul did not leave behind his connection to his love of the outdoors and roots in Arkansas.  Paul loves to spend time in West Texas, away from the busy city's hustle and bustle.  This allows him to reconnect with his love for nature, especially in a  community where everybody knows your name, and is reminiscent of a simpler time in our history.  Paul has passed on his love for the great outdoors to his children, who also enjoy it.  While he is not a Texas native, he is one of Texas' own and is glad to call Houston home.
